Clogged traction motor compartments

Wonder if anybody else has seen this - it must fairly common. Wanted to check the state of valve and lines behind the 4 bolt guard on my SK130 traction motors. Pulled the guards off and they were utterly jammed with garbage - rocks, gravel, sand. Packed in like concrete. It took a hammer and chisel to remove it. The lines especially the small ones were corroded. Probably never been cleaned out. Seems to me that these cavities should be bashed out and then power washed once a year. Maybe even sprayed down with oil to keep em in good shape. Hope I don`t blow a steel line due to corrosion in there. Preventative maintenance pays dividends I guess.

yep, common problems can result. generally when we get machines in on trade its one of our items - to-do list is to remove and clean them out. it may be best to clean behind them twice a year. once though is better than most do. adam

I try to clean them out more frequently than twice a year. Especially if the machine has been working in water/mud, same with track covers on bulldozers.
