Close call

Saturday night a group of guys were out 4 wheeling. The were close to one of our pits where they are screening winter sand and crushing drainage stone. They could see flames across the pits. They went to check it out, and met a truck speeding away. 2 of our newest loaders a 966 and a 120 Volvo, both bought last year. Parked side by side. They had built a fire under the Volvo. One young fella called the boss and he talked him through getting the 966 going to move it away while the others threw sand on the fire. Cat was ok, but they tried to put sand in the hydraulic tank. Not sure about the Volvo. Some damage for sure. Can't leave anything. Good thing those kids were friends with the bosses son

With a little luck there will be security camera footage to get a plate. Call your equivalent of a DA and tell them you want results.

Pit is in the middle of nowhere. The fourwheelers said it was a newer truck. So it was someone with an axe to grind and not just a hooligan

    Holy cow!

That really fries my peanut. That's a serious loss potentially.

Attempted arson on $500K or more worth of equipment is a serious crime. Did they get the colour and/or make of truck?

Obviously the fire starters were Cat salesman trying to drum up more business

I'm just hearing bits and pieces right now. Haven't even seen pictures of the machine. They had a new last year tracked screener there as well. Never touched it. Could be pointless or jealousy. Company has been doing really well, been buying a lot of new gear. 2 shiny new loaders big target

Vandals are as despicable as thieves - one in the same as one takes your property and the other destroys. Shoot both on site.

I have not seen any pictures yet. It ruined a tire and fender on the Volvo. They put sand in the transmission fill pipe on the 966, and the wiring on the new tracked screener were burnt a bit. 3 brand new pieces bought last summer. There were 2 other companies in nearby pits. But they never got touched

Sure sounds like a disgruntled employee or someone with a big beef with the outfit. Hope they catch them.

I hope they catch those responsible—cowards who’d burn a man’s livelihood don’t deserve to hide. Keep those machines running and show them nothing stops the spirit of real work.

There is a camera at the end of the road. That night there were over 20 vehicles that went in the road before this happened. Lot of camps up there. Out of 20, 11 were Dodge. Which is what was seen speeding away. There is another way out because no one was seen leaving by the camera or they went to a camp

Did the camera's get the license plates?

Not sure. I think it's a forestry camera and since they did away with front plates. I'm doubtful
