Clutch problem

meadowmuffin ยท 2023-08-05 09:21

1950 D4 just getting it running. Clutch will only engage to start the main engine once in a while, mainly after it has set for a while. Wondering if it is the clutch disks slipping when they get covered with oil. And if that is the case, can I get that assembly out without splitting the dozer?

Is this the starter clutch you are asking about rather than the hand operated from the seat drive clutch.

The pony engine start clutch is adjustable. Squatch on YooToob is your man, his videos are very good. You need to check for broken latches, and when adjusting it, only adjust the latches a small amount at a time.
