we use excavator mounted compaction wheels to compact/backfill our ditches. we build them ourselves, set up for a 30" wide excavation. has 3 -30" diameter wedge pad wheels mounted to a 3" diameter shaft....works great...NOW the problem, we've always used 3" timeken dual tapered roller bearings, in a pillow block mounting. they are called a "type 3"...supposedly a better seal to them, they're okay, last about a season, but should they fail during the work time, it takes a whole day to replace them. i see that the barone wheel uses the sealed journal, no maintenance bearing, any of you have experience with them? they offer a 5 year warranty on it. must be damn good
