Should a compression tester hold the gauge reading when it’s disconnected from the cylinder

    Sort of, since it does need a one way valve to work.

    Thanks! Got it figured out. Had 2 faulty gauges. One was repairable since it only needed a valve stem replaced. The other one had other issues to the point I’m sending it back to the company. (Or I might find a replacement valve and keep it. Nothing like having a spare.)
