Which pays the most and has the most opportunities for work?
In my area they all pay about the same . Just different tools used to complete a job site . It's kind of like making hay . Which tool is most important ? Well ... Ya need a mower , hay rake , baler & tractor . Wagon to haul it in and a barn to stack it in . I look at the construction equipment the same way . Everything has its place & job to do . Decide on what you like to operate & go for it bro .

Also takes the most patience, dedication, time and opportunity to learn, but will make the most money and you will never have to worry about being home at a set time each day. Good operators of big cranes are worth every penny they earn.
It's not about which one pays the most, it's which one you want to do the most. The one you want to do most, is most likely the one you will be better at. And you will work harder at it too, but it won't feel like working.

It seems excavating and dirt moving appears to be the most fun, paving seems like it would get old fast especially during the summer

Stop buy a site or there office & introduce yourself explaining you are interested in that type of work . They might hire you , sometimes it's just that simple .
