i have a 2007 jcb 4cx backoe with cuttings in the hyd system ,first it locked up my spool for lowering bucket changed filter and oil and took spool out cleaned it up ,everything worked fine for a while, but yesterday my steering got hard.drained oil and there is still cuttings in oil.how can i clean out the whole system, where can the cuttings be coming from everything seems to be working just fine.where can i find a hyd schmatic.tried contacting my local dealer, worst service ever, wont even let you talk to a tech guy, been calling the last 2 days. the backhoe has 2800hrs and is 4 wheel steer, any info would be greatly appreciated.
It could be anywhere, I would start by inspecting the stab cylinder barrels for signs of contact with the rear bucket teeth, and the backhoe bucket cylinder tube for contact also. A bent cylinder rod, steering cylinder, loose piston on a rod end can cause metal shavings in the hyd system. It's said to say this other than filter change and pulling cylinders apart it will get expensive quick. If your machine has quick couplers for other attachments it could be a issue from a different tool group, broom, auger, jackhammer. I have not been around a 4cx but attachment, pump, cylinder, valves and hoses. The worst thing is if it's in the rubber lining of the hyd hoses also you can't hardly flush them out. This is a bigger issue with a high pressure / hydro stat machine. Maybe a jcb tech is on the forum soon.
checked all cylinders no sign of damage there, maybe its a loose piston.the only thing i can see is my extender drops after a few days.i only got this machine about a month ago would not be able tell if a movement is weak or not.dont seem to have alot of lifting power with bucket ,but maybe thats just how she is.this machine has 4 wheel steer with an orbital steering motor,2 wheel,4wheel, and crab steer so im thinking its going to be hard to find where is blocked, after i drained tank and removed filters,i was able to move steering wheel ok with no oil in system.so my orbital motor is not blocked, must be in a valve beyond the motor.i got less than 100hrs put on it since i got it.only 2800hrs on machine.
never did a good inspection of the cylinder barrells, will check that out, thanks for the info sheepfoot.
Are there any service records available for it? if it was a local machine maybe a check with the local dealer to see if they show any service or parts going to it. Check for any areas that look newer/cleaner than the rest, might be a sign of where work was done... unless they put fresh paint on it before you got it.
everything that i took apart so far seem like it was the first time coming apart, all paint orignal, but i will check with my local dealer, never thought about doing that.thanks for the info Ronsii
the first time i had trouble i was putting in sewer,so maybe something happened when i was digging, maybe thats a good place to start.
If the problem first appeared while using the loader lift - when the spool jammed - I would be stripping those two cylinders & looking there first. The hyd pump should draw oil through a screen to stop contamination of the pump - check that out. The hyd oil should return to tank via the hyd. filter - if it gets blocked, it will allow oil to by-pass & contaminate the tank. - check that out too.
i was digging with the backhoe, when i finished i turned around to reposition lift the bucket to move and it would not go back down.there was cuttings on that screen also some in hyd filter and tank.thanks for the help Alrman
Maybe the hyd. filter has a metal mesh and it's coming part? If you don't much lifting power, it could be the pump.
Are the cuttings steel or aluminum. Lots of AL in some machine. Knowing which metal will help pinpoint. Should be a filter on the return tank to the hydraulic reservoir. Check that the element is properly installed or not damaged. If the cuttings are steel I would suspect and check the hydraulic pump. Good Luck.
