Replacing the the ball, and pillow blocks on the blade of my tractor. My question is,there is no grease up there, it is a dry joint. Sand and grit is free to fill the gap around the ball and work its way into the joint, only to be ground into grinding compound Has anyone ever put a thick layer of grease around the top of the joint, and let it build up as a barrier against fresh sand working its way in. Seems that after a short time, it would make kind of a crust and keep stuff out.Or am I over thinking this.
Have not heard of anyone doing it, but as much abuse as the area takes I don't think it would work. I need to replace/rebuild the same areas on mine one of these days
