D4D HELP

Fellas - have a D4D with serial number 82?2224. can not make out the digit in between the 2's. looks like it could possibly be a "J". are there any other letter possibilities on this model? Trying to find out the year so I can locate a part and service manual. Many Thanks..

    It is 82J2224, the 82J was a popular model of D4D, U.S.-built from 1968 - 82J2224 was built in early 1970, according to my records. It should be powered by the 4.75" bore D333C engine, which was later renamed the 3304.

    Thank you OZ. I failed to mention earlier the dozer has a factory winch, does this help narrow down the year?

    The winch is simply an option or accessory that can be purchased at any time, either when new or later, and it has no bearing on the build year of the tractor. All Cat serial numbers after the prefix are consecutive build numbers.
