Needing help either fixing or replacing front engine cover on a 3204. Front engine cover by the water pump and water sensors keeps cracking. welded first crack with special cast rod with success. now a new crack has resurfaced. anybody no where to find a replacement cover, i've tried all the normal places like oregon tractor and such.
See if a local dealer is part of the used parts network and can find one for you. Could also look under used parts on Machinery Trader if you have a part number.
Id look for an outfit that does metal stitching. I had an irreplaceable housing on a marine gear done with it ,cracked between 2 bearing fits. The repair served us well for years after.
Thanks fellas. I'll keep you posted
Shows a used one here but would have to verify part numbers to be sure it's the right one for your engine. I think from a 943/953 might be. Dales Industrial Equipment (dalesoldtractors.com)
Did you check the first repair didn’t warp from welding ?
Does the possibility exist that the cracks in the timing cover are a symptom of something rather than a defect in themselves..? In other wrods is something wrong inside that cover that is over-stressing it and causing the cracks.?
Finally took front cover off for inspection. Nothing inside looks out of place or stressing. Checked with dales industrial equipment for that cover but will not bolt up to a d4h 3204 something about the oil pump location different. He said i wasnt the first to be looking for the same cover for a d4, so obviously there must be an issue with this cover. Still looking for new cover, if anybody comes across one let me know. Thanks
Do you have Serial Numbers for both the engine & the machine..? That would give me a clue to look to see if there were any upgrades, etc.
part number 9y9243
dozer 9db04959 engine 7yj00141
9Y-9243 was at one time part of a 9Y-9248 Housing Assembly which actually included two housings (9Y-9243 & 9Y-9244), the oil pump shaft, and one or two other odds & sods. Not sold like that any more - all parts are now separate. The latest housing Part Number is 1W-4358 which appears to be a combination of both 9Y-9243 & 9Y-9244. That may be a clue as to why the 9Y-9243 was cancelled. See attachment. EDIT: Cancel the above. You need to be looking for 9Y-9244 Housing As which is sold as the separate parts listed below. The Housing itself is now 9Y-9251
My cat dealer said that the 9251 cover would not fit the d4 without changing the oil pump driver gear and a whole bunch of stuff. That cover fit a 953 loader but wouldnt go in the d4 chassis with out mods done to engine. Found a later part number 7w6407. Dont know but really neeeding this thing back together. thanks for info.
But i see the oil pump shaft numbers are the same
I also noticed that when you commented initially. Maybe the shaft stays the same but the oil pump gear changes.? If so I have no idea why.
4 years later back to the same d4. Looking for a service manual or detail of all the testing ports for the transmission. Having some heating issues, but would like to put some gauges on this thing just not sure which is which and what is what.
Test & Adjust procedure attached.
Thanks again nige. I’ll be back after testing with some more questions. You da’ man
