How do you loosen a track that is to tight?
Next to the front idler you will find a cover on top of the track frame and fixed in place with 4 bolts. Remove the cover, under it you will find 2 valves - fill (lower) and relief (upper) . The fill one looks like a grease zerk. Loosen the relief valve no more than 1 turn and the front idler should come backwards. If the idler is reluctant to move back you may need to run the tractor back and forth a bit with the relief valve loosened. If you do this put the cover back on to stop dirt from the track falling in the hole.
Cowcatcher, did this track have proper tension before and then one day you got on it and it was fiddle string tight? If so your spring retaining housing is broke! Hopefully this is not the case, follow Nige's directions.......TIO
Thank you. I figured it out yesterday afternoor. I did have to move the tractor back and forth about 10' and the track did loosen. Thanks again.
