#8PB 01320. Been down for a year plus. Because of covid...I finally ran out of excuses and fixed my yard-art dozer. Now that i got diesel in oil fixed (bad transfer pump). Anyways i ran it for 45ish min. yesterday. Goes into all gears fine. Will engage and move at low idle...fyi. Steering is fine both sides lock up and feel the same. Problem shows up when put to heavy load. Took down 3-4 mesquite and hackberry trees 12-15in. trunks. Problem shows when dipping blade down to pop out roots. Dozer tracks stall out & wont even break loose and loose traction. This is with 2/3 wore out grousers. I seem to notice that high idle at time seems a bit low. Sometimes when letting off the decelerator its slow to react (bring up RPMs) Im not for sure if pushing hard at less than max high idle RPMs would make that much difference in slippage. Maybe on a old machine??? I'm no diesel mechanic by any means so i'm somewhat intimidated when it comes to something ive never dealt with before. I dont even have any pressure gauges or even know where test ports are. I can say tranny fluid level is fine, but oil is dark. i have not done anything tranny wise since i bought this tired wore out dozer. So i have no clue when it was serviced before. im sure the next step is change tranny fluid and filter. And clean any associated screens. Also i have not tried pushing hard in 2nd. What should i expect if i did? First with a low hour unit ..as opposed to the old tired unit? Can i just baby this dozer along knowing its limitations...and delay the inevitable? I already baby it knowing its wore out...and dont slam it balls to the wall and push it hard like a money maker. This now a seldom used farm dozer (put out to pasture to say) Comments and suggestions
remove the floor plate. and when the machine stalls check to see if the drive shaft is turning. if the transmission drive shaft is turning the transmission is slipping or both steering clutch's could be slipping which is unlikely
Years ago a 769 dump truck was slow as. The owner checked the transmission, everything was OK. Finally got Cat out and the first thing they did was check the engine RPMs at WOT. It was down 300RPM, made the adjustment. It was a flyer after that. Your dozer could be the same was well.
drive shaft will stall if locking a turn level at low idle RPM sometimes. However not a issue at high idle.,,or any RPM above low idle. Anyways (see another of my post) i had issues with a nonfunctioning froze brake lever. I was stuck in halfway on position. Anyways after getting this all freed up any restoring full travel, my slipping problem seems to have been solved too. My liitle D4H has rippers mounted...so i used them to test it out. Sunk the rippers all the way down and lo and behold tracks stayed spinning instead of slowing to a stop. Thanks for replys.
