Hy gents, Anyone know if there is other diff besides lenght on the trans half shafts between LGP and XL models on this tractor? thanks
Do you have any shaft Part Numbers.? You are referring to axle shafts I assume.?
No i do not have part numbers, i mean the half shafts(axles) between the steering clutches and the epicyclic reduction (Planetary reduction). or that part has another name like axle...
They are generally referred to as axle shafts. In the Parts Manual the assembly is the "Axle Group". An outer shaft #1 on each side and one of each #2/#3 in the centre.
Axle Shafts... makes sense... n1 it is the object of my atention... i would like to know what diferences there is from a LPG and a XL configuration tractor. besides part number and size... i like to know if i can fit one XL half shaft in the clutch/brake assembly of a LGP configuration tractor, and if it shares same spline patern on the epicyclic reduction, assuming the sun gear is part of the reduction. What i want to do... is to straighten an LPG tractor, on the cheap side...
As far as I can tell from a quick check the only difference between an 8G-4574 Shaft As (outer) for a 1DD-prefix tractor and an 8G-4571 Shaft for an XL tractor is the length. The 8G-4571 Shaft is 550mm long when finished. No information is available regarding the length of the 8G-4574.
Nige, u´re the man, how could we depen this out before spend some money to check it out other differences?
I looked at pretty much every prefix of D5H and all I can say that irrespective of whether the tractor is STD or an XL version the final drive parts on the outside and the steering clutch drive parts on the inside are all the same P/N where they marry up to the axle shaft splines. That leads me to believe that the only difference between the two outer axle shaft Part Numbers is the length. Description: Sun gear shaft for use with final drives on powertrains of Cat machines. Attributes: (Same for both EXCEPT length): Hardened steel shaft Spur Gear Number of Teeth: 10 External Spline Number of Teeth: 34 Outside Diameter: 3.218 inch. Length: 8G-4571 - 21.653 inch: 8G-4574 - 28.740 inch. Over 7" difference in length which is considerable.
Again Nige, thanks very much, u´re a well of wisdom. It did not make any sense having diff engeeneered parts just for a wider and longuer track , tyoe of track and so on. Of course much more parts are diff but this we can mod for the job we intend to do. Thanks
Nige, Found a friend with D4H parts specially the sprocket sleeves and the half shafts… he said they might be same as D5H… I really dought but … U know of any commonality between this 2 machines? At least at this level?
Sorry to tell you but they’re not the same.
no wories ... a D4H is a baby compared to D5H ... of this era. I guess a D5H is much more closer to the D6D than it is to the D5B.
Old tread, but finally ID the shaft i need 8E-8272 does anyone know the lenght of this one? More over, looking for a set of this, 2nd hand of course, if anyone has a clue i´m all hears Thanks
23.425". All other attributes of 8E-8272 are the same as the 8G-4571/8G-4574 shafts above.
Thanks, That info is very helpfull.
Hy Gents, For those who have access to CAT system, and can help with this: would like to know lenght of this part numbers : 8E-8272 8G-4574 both are axle shafts. Thanks in advance.
8E-8272 - 23.425" 8G-4574 -28.740"
Thanks Nige, U´re really on top!!!
