0Hrs on final drives???? Is the center of heat near the FD pinion. There might be something wrong with pinion bearings. Later Bob

The heat is right at the back when i put my hand futher down it cools off.yes it had 0hrs. on the drives was my first cat i think the guy was honest so far it is everthing he said it would be no other troubels except new rad

If it's the same on both sides it might be warm oil from the boosted brakes dumping on the inside. If anything is going wrong something will show up in the magnetic screen. Later Bob

Both sides are about the same i thought the one side was a little warmer did check the screen under the floor board had some filings on it just some on the outer edges not sure if there should be any thing on there would there be a noise from the drives if a bearing was bad was working in -25c. weather so it should not have gotten that warm

There will always be some fine metal on the magnets, can't wipe it all off. I don't think anything is wrong with your tractor. They are very durable machines and handy to move too. Later Bob

what does your converter temp gauge say when you notice this heat condition? How long did you run it till it got hot? I wonder about the torque scavenge pump. You might drain the converter box and see if more than a couple gallon of oil comes out. shouldn't be much in there. Dragging brakes would surely build this heat too..until the lining rubs off. Just ideas..

I was going to have a look and see what i can see don't think is the final drives as the heat was on the upper case torque temp was a about 1/4 way up always runs there in the winter, summer a little bit higher.Ran it about 1 hour

If your final drive oils look good, and are on level, check them when you next need to service them. Also send an SOS to dealer for inspection if you like. Later Bob

Not sure if there was a modification during the model run, but around here D6D's have the reputation for having regular final drive problems. The joke is that they have programmed maintenance intervals - every 1000 hours you need to rebuild them! And that came from both a D6D user, (logging) and a CAT salesman. I would imagine that if your oil and screens look good and you have no nasty noises it can't be too bad.

I no a guy he does his final drives every 3000hrs. for him it is every three years.

drained oil out of final drives nothing in there whet to adjust my brakes tighed them up backed off 9 clicks the one side i can pull up the adjusting rod about 1/4 inch the other side i can just wiggle it wondering if this could be the cause

that would be great if it was only brakes out of adjustment. Best of luck..
