Guys I have a stumper for Yall. My 6 has had pre combustion chamber problems for the past three months. First started to run hot. Then noticed #1 pre cup had water coming from around it at a good pace. I thought quick fix. Replaced all Orings and steel rings I used the( thick ones) ? on that. Fired it up had pressure in the radiator getting into the combustion chamber of #2 loosen the radiator cap no problem. I knew i had exhaust getting in thought just keep an eye on the temp. So ran it for a few hours and blew the pre cup out of the head split in half about mid ways of the injector. Installed new pre cup and both rings. fired it up again. ran for a few hours and now have steam coming out of the # 3 chamber. Who can help anyone please
cracked cylinder head?
Agree on the cracked head, the steel washers come in different thickness for glow plug orientation
Seems like you have more than one event going on. First is "O" ring seals leaking. Then the sypmtoms of a pre-com chamber pin hole. Allows pressurizing of cooling system. Then blowing a pre-com chamber. All one piece pre-coms are actually two pieces furnace brazed together. That's the only way they can be machined and occasionally one lets go. Was that a new replacement? Now it seems you have more than one pin holed chamber (#3) Whats the corrosion conditions of the water side passages?
What has caused your problem is water restricted traveling through the cooling system, the cool water leaves the water pump then heads through the the engine oil cooler, into the transmission cooler then into the cylinder block,on up to the cylinder head, I know your coolers are blocked??? strip them and find out. tctractors
would this be what caused the electrolysis in the others, like old magnet was talking about? Would roding the rad. and a flush fix me up.
The head looks good had it pressure tested when we found the same problem with a hair line crack in #4 last year. Im going to start cheap then work my way up. Thanks for everyones help.
magna fluxed tested
Dirtdozer, invest in an oil cooler gasket kit, it is in the parts listing and strip out everything from the water pump to the block side water entry, also change you water temp regulator, check your fan and rad for correct wind movement, as you have been cooking your engine. tctractors
Thanks that sounds right.
Everyone was right. I pulled the head. CRACKED in the pre-com threads. Had them strip the radiator and You would not believe the mess. Plans: replace head, rod out radiator, steam clean, strip coolers and clean everything. Cooked it. I knew just did not want to believe it. Thanks for everyones help
hot motor If you are going to work this engine you might want to pull the pistons and liners .Check liners for erosion ,if ok replace seals and clean out block. If pistons are ok rering them. Good luck Bob
Without any wish to make things harder dirtdozer the last post by bluox is the route I often take, the sump and pan are easy to pop off, the rods are simple to get to plus the liners are simple to fire out, if the rod bearings are showing any glint of copper or look a bit dogged, I would also swap out the main bearings, this is easy to do in frame just remember to slacken off the vee belt set to make things easier. tctractors
