d6h transmission shuts down when temp reachs 230. New oil and filters all screens cleaned.Pressures good until it reaches 230.
Do you mean it shut downs as in the machine quits moving(stalls) or engine dies or what? If it is stalling convertor is probabl getting bad,but with the temp at 230,you need to look at what is causing the temp to build up that high.Clean radaitor, engine oil cooler, trans cooler. Also one of the cores in the front of the machine is also for the transmission to cool it. Does the engine temp increase as the trans temp goes up? Need some more info? As far as engine shuting down i don't think the H's has any electronic to shut the machine down.is the buzzer and red light going off when it stall,or what ever it does when it shuts down.If the engine is dieing then fuel issue.Good luck
Has it always run up at 230. That's getting pretty hot . It should still work at that though. Sounds like maybe a priority valve or pressure regulating valve is sticking and dropping pressure after that temp. You may have a torque converter internal leak problem creating heat.
This dozer trans has always ran around 230. No lights alarms sound at this temp.Engine temp is normal radiator and transcooler are clean. Also when dozer stalls temp is 230 pressures drop you can kill engine. Restart in one minute temp will be 170-180.
It doesn't sound logical to me that if the engine is stopped with the temp at 230 then crank it up a couple of minutes later and the temp is 170. If anything hot fluid temps (at the temp sensor anyway) tend to rise not fall when the engine is stopped because there's no flow. Have you shot temps with a heat gun anywhere to confirm what the gauge is saying? Just out of interest what brand and grade of oil are you using in the powertrain?
I have not shot any temps. Chevron 30 wt. to4. Same oil I have been running. Ran today for 1 hour until temp reached 225 started loosing pressure, At low idle for 15 minutes it cooled to about 210. Gauges still bouncing all over killed machine.Let set a couple minutes restarted, temp guage at 170-180 pressures good and steady. When I say gauges are bouncing all over the pump is loud like it is starving for fluid.
If you are actually hitting 230F the oil has lost its lubricity, oxidized, and varnished
I pulled the valve off the torque convertor. The one with the sensors it worked fine and was clean. As yall can probably tell I am not a mechanic. Just trying to figure this out.
Had a d6h that customer had brought us the engine and torque out of, rebuilt both and gave back, they called after they got it back together and on job and said trans temp was getting hot went out and checked and unit wouldn't cost pulled seat and floor panels and rod coming from brake pedal to valve was bent holding brakes very slightly on, took off straightened rod and adjusted and heat problem went away.==== just a thought
Like above might have something to do with the brake trying to come on.There is an update to the plantery gears and brake cage on the right side final drive. There is a washer that is welded on to a sun gear that comes loose(breaks).Cage becomes wallowed out.
Just to be clear, the engine does not stall but you shut it off is that right? 230 will not hurt the oil , a lot of dozers will run up near there when loaded heavy. When the D8N first came out they ran at that all the time, Cat said if the light isn't on for trans temp keep working. I would like to know if the torque is flooding from leakage. The way to test that is to let it get hot and acting up then shut it off immediately without letting it idle ( I know that sounds bad but you have to do it this one time) Then drain the torque housing. If you get more then about 2 gallons of oil your torque is flooding . The brake drag could cause heating but I'm not sure why the pressures would start jumping around.
No sir the engine does not stall. I don't think it is brake drag because dozer will coast in neutral. What do you think about pump problems? Possibly scavenge pump? When pressures start jumping around pump is real noisy. Almost as if it is starving for fluid. This dozer has ran gotten hotter before with lights and alarm on but has never quit moving.
