D6N – LGP Dozer

George catman · 2022-10-11 06:15

Hey guys, we ve got a D6N dozer (MG5 serial prefix) with an oddball issue with the transmission/back end, there is a distinctive knock/bang in the back end when changing from foward to reverse. The noise is not there all the time, can come into it after 2-3 hours work, it gives the symptom that one tooth is missing off a crown wheel or pinion and when you rock foward to reverse in a certain spot it knocks. Have removed trans and RHS final to inspect , no metal on mag plugs or in the components, have loaded latest software and also calibrated after replacing modulation valves, at a loss on where to head to next ‍♂️ Any suggestions would be appreciated, cheers

Stupid question - have you elminated the u-joint between the converter and the transmission.? I know it's unlikely but worth lifting the floor and having a look.

On thing you might check, see what the transmission oil temperature is reading from the sensor vs what it actually is. I’ve seen more than a few of them read cold and that drastically changes the shift quality when the fluid is actually hot.
