D6r trans questions/issues

tj_farmer ยท 2012-08-20 20:31

my d6r is acting up when i go from forward to reverse, it will hesitate in "neutral" before sliding into reverse. it seems to get worse as the oil warms up. after about 3 hours it can take up to 2-3 full seconds prob. before it does into reverse. reverse to foward in instant. any ideas? had some fault codes, but we found the connector going to the trans loose. tightened it up, cleared codes, and ran for 2-3 hours with no codes.....also when warm, it seems to "stick" in forward when you put the diff tiller in neutral.by the time you hit the brake to stop it, since it doesnt go to neutral with tiller at first, it will go to neutral, maybe 1-2 sec when warm.... thanks for any insight

Most obvious thing would be shift solenoids/valves. I'd start there.

i would recomend swapping the solenoid valve for reverse and forward or any of the othere valves. they are all the same. then you can see if the problem follows the solenoid valve. if not then sounds like reverse clutch has some leakage and when the oil gets hotter you have more leakage. you might have to put a gauge in it to check the reverse pressure.

thanks, ill try swapping the sol.

TJ, it will cost you a service call but well worth it. First change the trans filter and cut open to make sure the trans is good. Then get the trans control callibrated. That controls clutch fill time(modulation) and should be done a few times through a trans life, it changes as clutch plates wear. Later Bob

If you want to have a bash at it yourself then building a Click Box (CMS Service Tool) is not hard and the documentation exists to do all the tranny calibrations using that tool. Saves you the cost of a service visit if you feel competent enough to have a bash at it. If not, pay your local friendly dealer to do it.

sorry i havent been on much lately, ive been farming. havent got to run it for more then 2 hrs at a time so far. had local guy come out and did a trans cal and clear codes, last time it was the int. speed #2 sensor that was the first to throw a code, then within 1 min. the modulating valve sensor for fwd and rev. went off. we reset to see if it does it in that order again. for some reason he didnt want to redo the clutch fill setting..... thanks for everyones thoughts and suggestions, seems to rain every other day now that i want to run it, this after being in a drought all summer. gotta love mother nature after reading everyones posts the second or tenth time. if it ends up being a reverse clutch leaking down as the oil gets hot, what does that intel as far as repair. cost?

just wanted to update the post........i had my local come out and we replaced the fwd and rev. mod valve and sol. for each. he also replaced the #2 int. speed sensor (673f02) it was the code it shot. he did a clutch fill cal and cal/checked pressures. i ran it for two hours this afternoon, ran great, no hesitation or anything till i went to park it. what would cause the 673 f02 to shoot only when the dozer is in park, take it out of park and move it back and fourth and it shifts great, put it back in park, it sits there for 10-15 sec then boom 113 673 f02 comes back, code goes inactive about 2-5 sec after you take it out of park..... i replicated it three times. it went off twice. the last time it never did shoot the code, it was dark so i called it a day, any ideas? i never got to call my guy yet since it was afterhours...thanks

There is an adjustment for the parking brake switch in the little square plate by the steering lever ( if diff steer)), mine was throwing a code and all it needed was adjustment, I guess it was not going fully on when you pulled the knob up

According to my notes 113 673.02 is trans speed sensor, my parking brake code was 113 70 02
