have a d7e serial48a.... piston went through block on motor wondering if there is motor that would cross over to replace 339 that was in it possible newr style or should sell for parts what be worth good under carriage and trans track and dozer 1965 model with power shift
Jeff, it's not going to bring much unfortunately. It's hard to say if it's worth rebuilding. Maybe you can find a parts machine with a good motor, but it will take some time. These machines are getting long in the tooth now...even though they're one of the best of the older dozers with a power shift transmissions you can still spend more on them than what you could ever get out of them unless you use them a lot. I have seen some military surplus D7E's come up for sale recently which still bring good money since they have low hours on them. That D339 is about all that will work in that machine because of the rpm range...they don't rev very high.
machinerylot.com has 2 339s listed for sale (kyle plummer) might check on them
thanks appreciate info
if you get serious about an engine adelmans in Ohio is another possibility
Right there is your problem. The newer D7 models with a 3306 run at 2000rpm max. The D339 runs at 1200rpm max, that’s why another D339 is probably your only option.
With a lot of people now tinkering with common rail engines would it be possible to get an engine of the same cubic size and rejig it to the same spec as a D339? I know the manufacturers say no I have had this conversation with JD wanting to limit the RPM's on an engine and they said no but another business said it can be done.
