D7e brakes job??

Oliver182 ยท 2014-07-19 13:31

How big of a job is it to replace the brakes on a old 7e? Left brake is getting pretty weak and assuming the brakes need replaced. Is there an adjustment on them? Where exactly are they at? Should a guy do both sides while your in there? ANy other pointers? thanks

Its not too bad of a job. The brake bands are in sections and can be rotated out a hole in the back. Adjustment is done under the fuel tank from the back of the machine. There are to covers (one for each brake) . Remove the the left cover to adjust the left brake. Will be a large bolt under the cover, turning bolt clockwise tightens the brake band.

You tighten them gently to point of refusal, then back them off so many clicks for running clearance. I do not recall how many clicks for a 7E, is it eight?

    9 clicks/1 and 1/2 turns. Later Bob

Thanks Bob! Well, one click off, not bad for twenty-five years ago I think, LOL

When you say the point of refusal do you mean till they are tight?

Well yes, but not with both hands and a long wrench tight, just tighten until they stop clicking easily, you'll see what I mean when you adjust them.
