my d7e starts out at 35-40 pounds oil pressure when started. After 10-15 minutes it drops a little to 25-30 and then again about 5 or ten minutes later to about 20 where it stabilzes there. Under a load the enigne rpm slows and the oil pressure drops further like down to 8-12, but then the engine is only running at near idle speed under a load. Any ideas on what could be the matter?

So many things... What's the turbo sound like? Does it smoke alot? You could have oil blowing into the turbo. Although usually when that happens the engine blows itself up as its fueling itself and it just runs faster and faster until KA-BANG! The turbo could be leaking air, which would give you a pressure drop in the cylinder, which would slow the engine, which would drop your oil pressure. Usually you'll hear a very high pitched whistle when its leaking air, and its almost always a cracked rubber hose. This situation would make more sense as the hose would be "cold" when you first start it and as the engine heats up etc the hose becomes softer and the leak starts/gets worse. If its sputtering and dying out on you check your fuel filters.
Does it smoke under load? If not worn out governor. Very low oil pressure, and a decelerate will lock at low idle. Could have some worn ouit bearings, pressure leakage some place too.
Losing RPM's Losing RPM's is a fuel system problem. Losing oil pressure is oil pump,crankshaft, camshaft, bearing problem. When the oil pressure drops to 8#-12# , that is not good! Better shut it down, and do some searching for the cause before it seizes up !
loss of allsorts The lack of oil pressure is the cause of the lack of speed, check out what is happening down in the oil pan fast, the loss of speed is due to the rack limit control built into the injector pump, ( an engine saving gizmo) drain off an amount of oil from the sump, water is a good posibility here??, then check the oil filter for bearing bits, if water is found in the sump, it might be a cooler if your lucky. tctractors
