d7h vs d7h lgp

would a d7h lgp "skate on top" when pulling (tile plow), or will it do ok with the larger footprint. it will run mostly on plowed or worked ground. i like that there 5-7k heavier, but question the foot print....i still cant seem to find a nice d8h or k, so figure the next step is a d7h, always can mount weight up frt on the blade if more lbs is needed.....thks

LGP is just what it says it is , Low Ground Pressure. It might weigh more than a machine with standard width pads but the weight per square of on the track foot print will be less due to more track on the ground. I got a D8H 46A that I might be talked out of if you are interested.

You have different soils than we do , ours is mostly hard clay. In our situation narrow pads are better. More weight on a smaller foot print will get a better bite. You may call the cat dealer and question them on this. LGP sells cheaper here. Rocks tend to bend the pads and wear the rails more . Since your soil is good and would be loose LGP may be the way to go , especially if you are in a wet are tilling.

Our soil here in southern Wisconsin is probably similar to yours tj. I run 26 inch pads of D8H & K here.

if your looking for a 8k we have one here that we bought to use on farm and have decided that its too big for what we need. i have been personally running it. seems to be a real good dozer just too larger for us to be hauling all the time. id say its in above average cond. if at all interested let me know. we also have a 14a d8 cable dozer we are gonna let go too.

wow, thanks for all the replies guys, ive been farming and not online much. Greg, if you could, tell me about your 8h. undercarriage, grousers,s or su blade,etc..... fiat, i really would like a dozer with a blade, so i could use it for pushing big trees out, when not tiling. thks though my69, i appreciate the offer on the 8k, but i think id have a arm and a leg in getting it here, since we are so far apart. i have talked to acouple guys around here that seem to get along good with the larger pads, not saying the lgp is the way to go or anything though, just that it doesnt seem to "skate" like i was wondering. acouple of them warned me they eat undercarriages alot faster then std pads. no sure thats a huge issue with only putting min. hours a year on. they warned me a d8 on small pads, isnt afraid to go down in soft worked ground when its muddy. i joked with them, id prob. have to just farm around it untill it got dry, if i really buried one..... was there any "design flaws" that were an issue with the first d7h's?
