Hello, 1st time here. We have a travel gear tore up on our unit. We are trying to get the cover off to see how much damage is done. We removed the snap ring but the cover won't budge. Anyone have any ideas? We talked to the local distributor/mechanic and he says they will rust in place pretty good but didn't give us any ideas on removing the cover. They usually just replace the whole travel gear assembly as a unit. Pretty pricey unit. Anyone know of a used parts place we may buy a whole unit? thanks, david
there is a guy on ebay that rebuild odd units , some are not to bad in price.
replace unit try bulldig.com that will hook you up with parts finders new and used the one I use is G H Parts ph. # 251-625-2274 good luck Dave
Dave thanks for the link. I registered there and sent the info. david
I still need some help on removing the cover on this unit. anyone have a trick of the trade on getting it off? If I remove the hydraulic motor will I be able to knock the cover off, with a long drift, from that side? thanks, david p.s. how much oil will I lose taking the lines loose at the motor? Just the oil in the lines or will it drain the entire tank?
I am not familiar with your make of excavator, but if there are threaded holes around the rim of the cover that you can run a bolt in to pull the cover or use a slide hammer. Try not to distort the cover if you need to use it again.
If the motor is driving the sun gear directly you probably could. But you may be knocking on a thrust surface or ball bearing. It is best to knock as close to the stuck area as possible. You likely have cast iron covers. If you remove the cover for the return filter you probably won't drain the tank. But you will loose more oil than you thought. Have some plugs on hand. If it is going to be sitting awhile even a small drip will add up over time.
Machine, thank you for the reply. We finally got the cover off yesterday and there is more damge than we thought. Bearings need replaced. What I would call an idler shaft and gear are damaged. Plus the shaft from the hydraulic motor snapped. So it looks to need the complete assembly, motor and travel gear. Boss told me to keep looking for a good used unit. A new one is pricey and work is not real busy right now. XCMARK, do you have a link for the ebay fella you mentioned? thanks, david
Is it a Hy-Dash Motor, the outer covers just pull out after the wire clip is removed, inside there is a small centre gear driving 3 large gears, these make the crankshafts rotate inside the 2 Cam rings, the cam rings walk around the inside case picking up on the roller pins to make the Hub turn, if it has only 3 pipes feeding into it its a single speed unit, if there is more than 3 pipes its a 2 speed setup, before undoing the pipes vent the Hydraulic Tank, (undo the Cap) and leave it vented (cap Loose) then mark the pipes so they can be re-fitted in the correct location, the fittings into the Motor will often be the same size, the pipes will differ in size so this can cause problems if the pipes are not noted for location, the ratio of the gearing can be 10 different set-ups, so this needs the correct parts to keep things tracking straight, there must be Co's in your location that can patch this up for you, expect to pay about 1/2 new price for the repair, it is in the U.K. those pipes are best blanked off with Steel or Plastic plugs with a pot under them to catch the drips. tctractors
Wish I would have seen this earlier...we are the North American distributor for Teijin Seiki Hy-Dash. We can help you. I'll send you a PM
