Deere 200D LC Electrical Problems

LMC1942 · 2025-05-22 23:34

Hello to all! We recently acquired a 2014 Deere 200D LC excavator that has us scratching our heads. When trying to start the machine a red exclamation point appears on the bottom left of the monitor screen and indicates that we should check the batteries and charging system. We have checked batteries and they passed a load test, all battery cable connections have been taken apart, cleaned and reassembled, alternator wiring has been cleaned and tightened also. But the engine still refuses to turn over when the key is turned to start. Does the machine generate any specific trouble codes for this problem? If so, does it store these codes and how can they be viewed? I broke out the multimeter and did some basic testing of the electrical system, but soon became a bit "lost" without a schematic to follow. We are familiar with other heavy equipment but this is the first excavator that we have purchased for use in an agriculture/forestry setting. Any forum members out there that can point us in the right direction to diagnose and repair this problem? Also, since this machine is new to us, is there anyone out there that would share any service/technical/repair manuals for it? Thanks!

Welcome to HEF LMC1942 ! When seeking help, please always post the machine's complete serial number. In the equipment world, model years mean nothing. See below to access the service menu. When you are in the service menu, press the little menu button (button 13 below) to enter. Scroll to the troubleshooting, press the enter button (the button under the pointing finger). Scroll to the controler that indicates a code, press enter. There shoukld be a code number there if there is a code. Post any codes you find from all the controllers.

Would be a good idea to voltage drop test all the items posted in LACHAU'S list to rule out something simple. Good multimeter and someone who knows how to use. Simon C

Can you get it to turnover by the old wrench/screwdriver on the starter trick? Could be wire fallen off the back of key switch or broken not completing circuit to ground somewhere. Would be beneficial to meter the alternator output while it was running.

Success! After doing voltage tests following LACHAU's list, it turns out there was a broken/loose wire on the starter cut relay that was causing all the problems. Connector was repaired, no alarms, no trouble codes, machine starts every time! Thanks to everyone for the assistance!!

Glad I have not gone crazy yet in post #4 saying to test all that Lachau had posted. Simple test seem to work as good as a parts cannon of wrong items to fix the problem. As mg2361 listed above always good to check for service codes. Glad it is fixed. Simon C
