We are trying to develop a breather for the hydraulic tank on these excavators as many of them suffer from water in the hydraulic oil as many of them work near the water due to close confines, etc. They use a rad cap for the cap on the tank - see attached pic. Anyone have any idea what the pressure is in the tank? Also can we assume there are no other places the air cant get in on these models such as a breather or vent line?
Good day Normally its about 1 bar, i suggest you give a thought to letting air out as well as in. The illustrated prevents water ingress. Kind regards Uffex
I recommend that you keep the factory cap as they made the machine like that for a reason. Water in the hydraulic system is not good and you need to find how it is getting in Example: You drive in water a lot maybe your drive motor is depleting and its coming in from there
Thank you so much. We are doing exactly that it will allow air in and out.
We are working with the dealers as we help them test their fluids, etc. Their tests many times show water ingression and acidity (hydrolysis). The cap is a radiator cap so it breathes and allows moisture in. A breather with a desiccant is a simple solution to the problem. Thank you for your comment we are not changing the cap per se it will form part of the breather.
I work for an equipment dealer, the lab we send our oil samples to won't design a cap for the manufacture as they only test fuilds, doesn't make much sense to me but I get the point. You are aware of of the manufactures out there building only hydraulic tanks & caps ? Those are the people you need to talk to as thats all they do Best of luck
