Deere 550g Steering Brake Adjustment

Inglewood11B ยท 2020-05-09 09:51

Would someone kindly send me the procedure for steering brake adjustment for a 1994 lever steer 550G TC? Found the procedure for pedal steer but not lever. Thank you in advance.

You should purchase the Operation and Test manual TM1403 or an operator's manual OMT163974. Also the procedures are different depending on the serial number of the machine.

Thank you and I agree. However I needed to load the machine on a trailer to get it off a jobsite and doing so is not the safest thing without full functioning braking system. I did manage to adjust the tension by removing the large plug above the sprocket with a 1/2" ratchet and extension. Inside that plug hole is a gear mechanism that if turned clockwise (looking from the rear of the machine) tightens and counterclockwise loosens tension. One important thing to note is that the machine must be running in neutral with the safety arm up, if not the gears wont turn on the adjuster.

To do that safely, there is a horizontal set of holes just behind the shifter when in park position that you put a long 3/8" bolt through and secure with a nut to prevent the shifter from leaving neutral yet allow you to release the park brake so you can make adjustments.
