A friend brought his Deere 850C out to put in my shop so he could work on it. He said it was loosing about a gallon of engine oil per day. He is a new owner of this 12,000 hour machine. The previous owner had some goofy catch can on the breather tube, so it had been a problem. I didn't see the machine other than to back it in my shop. At idle the exhaust looks clean. The owner claims it starts good at 25F, so I am thinking good compression. The front crank seal is shot and may be most of the problem. Any comments on this engine/machine? Does the engine have oil return problems once it gets a little blowby?
Please post serial number when asking questions about Deere equipment. No, not usually. If there is a lot of oil coming out of the breather tube then blowby needs to be measured with a water manometer. Is the breather clear of obstructions. Has the turbo been eliminated as the source for blowby? What viscosity oil is in the engine? Oil sample taken (fuel dilution)?
Sn t0850cx942730. Your turbo comment made me think of bad valve guides. That would fit what little I know about the engine
