I have a new JCB3CX excavator has worked 300mh and a breakdown has occurred. The high pressure pump was found to be faulty at the service centre- pictures below. An operational error- contaminated fuel was given as the cause. I cannot agree with this as the fuel was refuelled with Shell branded fuel. What other causes could there be, does anyone know anything about these pumps failing. They do not want to carry out a warranty repair for me Thank you in advance for your help
Welcome to HEF, janeek! Sorry to hear of your breakdown. Unfortunately, since 90% of high pressure common rail fuel system failures are attributable to fuel quality,( or lack thereof), manufacturers are quick to duck out of warranty if possible. Even reputable suppliers can have a contaminated batch slip thru. And of course any and all storage and transfers tanks. . . The pictures do appear like rust is present, the scored plunger as well an indication of poor quality or contaminated fuel supply. These things do happen from " normal" wear, but should not at 300 hrs. Out of curiosity, could you post photos of entire pump, and also visible position of fuel injector( if possibel).
At 300 hours it probably had its first filter change. Dont prefill filters. Allows un filtered fuel and contamination into system. Also Ive seen the oring left off the filter bowl at service a number of times. Water was sucked into filter. As above, wear looks like lack of lubrication (provided by diesel fuel) most likely from water.
Thank you very much for your reply. The machine I bought was causing problems from the start. It was running relatively noisily, but the service claimed this was the norm. It had been serviced 4 times before this major failure. At 80mh it repaired a manufacturing defect - engine valves. The service department repaired the fault under warranty. When the machine was delivered, as soon as it started up, oil was pouring out from under the keypad. They arrived and found that the gasket had twisted during fitting!!!. They corrected it on the spot According to an independent expert, I sought the assistance of a specialist in high pressure pump repair. According to this, the opinion suggests that the system may have had a leak in the factory design and that the pump was aerated - air was sucked into the vacuum (fuel supply). The Venturi effect of an extreme vacuum causes liquids to boil, even at low temperatures, and draws in a different environment through a micro-gap or Venturi - sucking in air. The opinion suggests that the system may have had a leak in the factory design and that the pump may have been under vacuum - sucking in air (fuel supply). The Venturi effect is an extreme vacuum which causes the liquid to boil, even at low temperature, and sucks in another environment through a micro gap or venturi - sucking in air. The damage process initiated at the pump has not completed the emission of swarf transfer and damage on the injectors, but has reached the fuel tank via the injector overflows. So the swarf is also in the Raial high-pressure rail and the fuel tank. These components need to be replaced with new ones or carefully cleaned. I also find it difficult to understand the service's theory that the fuel is to blame. I have used a Catepillar dozer powered by the same fuel and nothing happened to it. And this is a new JCB machine and five repairs in 300mh of operation One other question I have is whether the fuel filter should be changed during servicing after 100mph - I insisted that it should be, but was told that the manufacturer does not recommend such a change A photo of the whole pump should have. Please try to find one. Thank you for your suggestions
Can you edit that into English to comply with the forum rules.?
of course
The fuel filter was never replaced by the service department at warranty inspections. It was claimed that there was no need
One thing everyone needs to realize is that fuel brand means absolutely nothing. From refinery to your fuel tank there are several chances for fuel to be contaminated. Myself, I would consider filtering the fuel before putting it into a machine. See a lot of people put a spin on fuel/water separator filter between the pump and nozzle of their storage tank. Have you inspected the inside of the fuel tank? Checked all fittings, plugs, bungs etc for possible entry points for water and dirt into the tank? What about the lines themselves?
Repair was under warranty new machine after 100mh. Authorised JCB service Replaced rockers and bridge , and fuel lines . The injector o-rings were not replaced , the fuel tank was not cleaned Unfortunately nothing else was checked and after another 200mh the pump and injectors came apart
Good afternoon The matter has been clarified JCB excavators were sold with a manufacturing defect. The company was not even informed of this. Please find attached a transmission of the information issued by JCXB about the manufacturing defect Maybe someone also had such a problem to fix the repair
