Hello the names Chad... I purchased an old 741 bobcat a week ago, the wiring is a mystery to me, And i fried the what i belive to be a fuel solenoid already. I am looking for a bobcat technichian that can help me with what wires need to be going to what terminals know theres the BAT. termianl M terminal And S terminal i have the bat connection down. i have 3 wires left one dissapers into the engine maybe for the ignition. one goes above the starter to another device and one runs to the fuel solenoid.. Any help would be much appreciated

the wire that disappears probably is for the alternator exciter circuit, B is for bat, S is for starter solenoid, the rest would run your fuel solenoid and anything else that would have to be on when the engine runs. you can check it with a test light, put 12 volts on B, when you turn he switch to start the S term will have power when you release the switch to run it will go dead. the rest ign. solenoid for fuel should be energized to 12 volts

Alright so then the fuel solenoid would go to m along with alternator wire.. and the third must be ignition to go to S.... and thank you

without seeing it yes just use your tester all those wire need power they are not grounded

it's been a while since i looked at a 741, but here goes. there may be an fuel shutoff solenoid, however some had a mechanical shutoff. there also may be a fuel solenoid inline in the fuel line coming from the tank that needs to have 12v+ with key on. afetr 30 years, and countless "mechanics" working on it, it's hard to tell without literally looking at it, to see what is there or not there. a polite call or visit to your local dealer will probably get you a copy of the wiring schematic. :drinkup

one final question and i should have it.... would hooking the fuel shuoff solenoid to the stater solenoid cause it to fry..i.e over heat and fail

can you post a pic of the solenoid you're talking about? my brain aint hitting on all cylinders right now....... but to answer your question, it depends on where you had it connected to :beatsme :drinkup

Maybe, some are three wire, 1 ground, 1 pull and one hold. If you put power to pull constantly it will fry, should only have power in crank on pull. Could you post some pics?

i will tomarrow i am going up to take a look ill post loads of pics

all the duetz air cooled diesels (411 & 511) i remember seeing with a fuel shutoff solenoid were 1 or 2 wire. but this just popped in my head, wonder if this engine has an electric activated fuel......? crap, i cant think....... aneroid? *** :drinkup

Its a solenoid on the rear of the engine, it is one wire and all it does is press a paddle down on a button on top of what i belive to be for the fuel... i have my brother taking pictures right now il post asap..... its just got one wire that i know for sure and it damn near started on fire.

If its one wire then the solenoid probably shorted, but it should have been fused, then again after thirty years of use and repairs all bets are off.

Alright An Excess fuel solenoid, that is what fried. this has to be engaged for engine to run correct and whats the chances that since i put a new starter in that the old solenoid just couldnt take it anymore.

if it's what i think it is, it's energized only when the starter is engaged and turning. once the engine is running, it's denergized. that engine should have a mechanical fuel shutoff, activated by pulling the throttle all the way back and holding it. i seem to remember they were spring loaded and the lever returned to low idle when released :drinkup

I have seen where a starter gets changed and wires get hooked up incorrectly, sounds like wire was put on battery terminal instead of output of solenoid?
