hi, i have a single cylinder deutz diesel model F1L411D, 700cc. motor was running perfect and i decided to remove the injection pump and clean it. it is a straight forward pump with 3 bolts and simply comes right out. on the pump body there is a small mechanism that slides back and forth, slides one way to stop engine and the other to supply fuel i guess. so when i placed the pump back into the engine i set the mechanism to the centre and aligned it to the internal throttle stop and bolted back up. i am getting fuel to the injection pump but no fuel going to injector. i blew air thru lines, and cranked it with the lines open to clear air. still not starting. any help greatly appreciated.
i should correct myself here. i stated that i have fuel to the injection pump. i have supply going to the injection pump, but the injection pump is not supplying injector. i have to assume that this pump needs timing. i removed it again and had a look inside the engine. its definitely sitting on the cam. i cannot see how to time this pump.
The "little slider" is the pump control rack..IT MUST sit into a slot in the ENGINE control rack.. Turn the key switch to the "run position" NOT START but run..and you'll see it move[with the pump removed] Only problem now is, if you bolted the pump without the racks engaged..you may have bent the engine rack..
Did you take the pump apart??
I did not take the pump apart. I did get the pump to sit correctly within the rack cause I did see the slot in the engine. I still can't see how to time this. The engine is a stand alone unit. Perhaps I have to set the piston BTDC or something within these specs and go from there.
The pumps are timed with shims under the pump base. The slot is VERY EASY to miss..Try again..IF it was running before you removed the pump..well, you know the rest.. The easiest way for me is, turn the key on, inorder to get the engine rack to move to the run position..then align the pump pin with the engine rack..it kinda centers the engine rack to the center of the hole for easy install..Good Luck. After installing the injection pump with the line disconnected and fuel line connected and cranking the engine over, why is it that fuel is not coming out of injection pump? Even if timing is incorrect at this point, fuel should come out of pump when cranking. I don't understand. Perhaps an injector bleed? Air caught in system.
Remove/loosen the line going to the injector and crank engine...yes fuel should squirt even if timing is off..
