Difference between Cat 349 & 352?

Tyler Cohrs · 2023-06-17 17:16

Considering either of those machines and looking for some insight... I get the 352 weighs slightly more, but is it actually a complete different machine? Is there a reason why Cat would make two machines with such close specs? Ive also noticed there is far less 352's listed online for sale compared to a 349. Id be looking at F series on both models. Any info is appreciated!

Easy way to get the info. Google “Caterpillar 352F Specalog”, then do the same for the 349F. You’ll get the complete spec sheet for each model. Here’s the first one - http://s7d2.scene7.com/is/content/Caterpillar/C10617784 The basic web address “http://s7d2.scene7.com/“ contains all the spec sheets so look for that when you are searching.

Maybe Cat is dabbling in the Komatsu playbook? 349 has a *500* series undercarriage, but *400* upper, and the 352 is a true *500*?

Im wondering if the 352 has an adjustable width undercarriage....

Try downloading the spec sheets. The info is all there.

Hi Nige... The website for the specalogs is not working. Can you please review?

You mean Google is not working.? That's all I use. Just put "Caterpillar 352 Specalog" into the box and click Search.

352 was a straight boom demolition excavator and it's been adapted to construction with a standard boom. CAT will approve the bigger 5yd bucket on a 352 but not on a 349, which is now a 350. Your local dealer may put a 5yd on a 349/350 but it's not approved by CAT corporate. The 349 got its nuts cut and is now the 350, going from C13 to a C9.3 engine. The 349F was also heavier at a minimum weight of 107K-117k llbs the new 350 starts at 105K lbs. The new 350 has two different cab options, premium or deluxe compared to the standard cab. Essentially, for CAT it looks to be a cost reduction strategy.. CAT will charge you similar money to a better performing 349F / 349 Next gen and give you a lesser product with the 350 which is less powerful and less stable.. I just ran one in a limestone quarry this week.
