do i check transaxle oil level when idling on a 580K phase 3

Hi, I guess the title says it all, do you check the transaxle oil while idling or with the engine stopped? it's a late model 580 K with the dipstick by the back hoe controls. Thanks,

    You want to check the oil with the engine off and after it has set about 30 minutes to allow the oil to drain down.
