We have a Dozer 1150H with 900 hrs that is slow to engage on the right track into forward coming out of reverse. The problem becomes a bit worse once the machine is being operated and warmed up. It takes about 3 seconds for the right track to engage. Any help is VERY appreciated. Thanks
Welcome to HEF tyoung :drinkup First place I would look is at the oil control rings at back of the machine. Just be certain the hesitation exists in both hi & low range on RHS also. This will confirm the problem to be in FWD. They use a teflon seal ring on the H models. These seals are a real pain to deal with ........ Some machines give constant trouble there & others go for thousands of hours without any worry at all. TIP - Don't be fooled by the seals appearance - I have replaced perfectly healthy looking seals & the hesitation has been fixed. :beatsme
Alrman is telling you the facts on those seals, that is what i would due also, hand pump them if you have the equipment, and look/replace the seal rings first on the shafts and go from there.
Thanks Alrman and sheepfoot. How hard are the oil control rings/seals to get to? Thanks again for the response, we are REALLY really needing to fix this problem.
Most (99.9%) of machines here, are fitted with rippers. Even so, these are very easy to get to. Hopefully you don't have a winch! As I said earlier, it is the seals that are the problem. You have to stretch the heck out of them to get them on the shaft & then you have to get them back in the groove. If it is cold where you are, heating the seals in hot water or oil will be a must. I have fabricated a nylon sleeve which has a lead on one end to push over the seals to get them into the grooves & then retain them for a while, as they settle back to their original size. You could use some shim stock & a couple of hose clamps to get the job done. A bit more difficult if you are trying to do the hi/low seals, in the front of the trans working through the floor plates - hence the nylon sleeve...... The picture below is obviously showing the LH cover - the seal ring part no is A175509 :drinkup
Thanks Alrman!! Is it the number 30 in image? The case website says this is the oil seal for the planetary shaft. I also cant find it under the part no. listed. Thanks again.
This is the page that actually shows the A175509 seals - item #2 The other picture is showing location of the end caps for you edit - may pay to order a couple of spares - just in case you damage them during install - item #23 on the housing picture is a shim/s. These can be carefully cleaned & refitted with a little 515 sealant - there is a picture of the nylon sleeve in use here - HeavyEquipmentForums - it's being used on a 855E, but you will get the idea.
1150H seals on trans I just replaced rthe seals on mine 1150H it was pretty easy and i made some tools and even took some pics that i will try to post. Mine were the front ones would not shift into high on the left sid when warmed up Do not use the older steel rings unsnapped (if you could vet them) this causes a delay in engagement.
ontrac, Thanks from a fellow Oklahoman. Pictures would be greatly appreciated.
