Hello, My left brake is not working very well. It appears to be out of adjustment. What kind of job is it to replace the bands? Should I do 1 of them or both of them?
Did you try adjusting it and ran out of thread ? Not too bad a job to replace. There are 2 jack bolts under the machine you need to raise up to help support the brake and steering clutch assemblies before pulling the output and input shafts.The parts book says to change both bands at the same time, I forget exactly why.
On my 450G there is a adjuster for each side, rather like a drum brake adjuster. It is behind a plug just above the tracks. On the 450G it is a bit of a job, and of course once we were inside the trans we found all sorts of other issues to deal with . . .
Thanks for the replies. I had a ballpark quote to replace both brake bands for 6K. Does this seem about right on price?
It probably needs more than just the brake bands.

Yes- My mechanic said it is completely out of adjustment. It did help slightly on the left side but not much.
