Hello, glad to have found your forum. My question, my son just bought a kamatsu d37e dozer, 1984 model (we think), it had set for over a year without running. It starts, idles and runs fine until you get it under load or up and down a steep incline, then it just bogs down. This happens even in first gear. We have replaced the fuel filter, replaced the strainer on fuel pump and have run the old fuel out with kerosene, fuel cleaner and new fuel, but it still bogs down. Before the dozer was shut down for a year , my son had used it on a couple of jobs and said it never bogged down like it does now. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
I would concentrate on low fuel delivery pressure 1) partially plugged lines/hoses. This is your most likely problem fuel tank rust, scale or sludge. 2) bad transfer pump 3) plugged suction in fuel tank Test pressure after pump land filters during failure. Next if it has a turbo visually check pressured intake system for leaks 1) connecting hoses for broken boots or clamps 2) gaskets leaking or missing 3) small plugs or piping used for signal lines Next in line would be injection pump 1) does it have a no boost no fuel diaphragm? Aka AFC in cat language is it failed? 2) throttle control linkage traveling to full throttle? 3) could have rusted internal governor parts not allowing proper rack travel TIO
re Ok, as soon as we find the time, we will start going through these suggestions , Thank you
Check the banjo fitting at the lift pump for a internal screen, they are famous for clogging.
That is, there is a screen screwed INSIDE of the banjo bolt on the lift pump inlet on many Japanese engines. Does it smoke when it bogs down?
re No , it doesn't smoke, and after we replaced the the screen on that banjo bolt, it is running better. Also, where is the fuel tank filter and how do you get to it ? THANKS to all of you for the help
