Ok more questions guys. How can i tighten up the engine speed/governor handle tension? it seems loose and will not stay put. Its like you have three speeds... idle, a little higher idle then all the way back for wot? No tension on it to keep it like half way....or is it designed like that?? Decelerator peddle works to slow RPS down...but you have to push quite a bit. The handle just seems to have alot of slop in it. Yes its tight on the shaft. I'd love to be able to climb on & drive a "new" condition D4H so i could tell first hand how controls, steering brakes, Loaded RPMS etc. feel so i could better judge whats outta whack on my tired new to me dozer. THANKS
Adjustment for full travel
Updated
Thank you for that info
my setup has the governor arm ABOVE the governor shaft..and going opposite of diagram. Pulling the arm back for high rpm and pushing it forward past top dead center to stop engine. These instructions dont state specific RPMs for high idle and low idle. Does anybody have these specs? How does the throttle arm tension work...looks like a huge nut around the base of the throttle arm...is that it? i also have a or question about the decelerator peddle...but ill post some pix to better explain what im wanting to find out. thanks
Pevo, I may have missed it but did you mpost the full S/N for your D4H? That helps a lot for those who have access to SIS(Service Information System) online as Cat liked to make changes often and even two D4H dozers could have some significant differences.
It was in one of his earlier posts Ken - 8PB01320 I came across some interesting Service Mags regarding springs and brackets for the decelerator mechanism, all of which came in around S/N 8PB4000-Up
A couple of things. There is a very loose fitting 1/4 20 nut/bolt attaching the decelerator to the governor arm shaft. I'm going to replace it and Tighten the slop out of it. The other is the governor setup. Does the set screw that limits the governor arm responsible for the max engine rpms
The clutch housing in the pic should be what holds tension on the throttle linkage. Looks like it has a couple of spring loaded steel balls that could wear out in a few thousand hours. The service manual will show how to rebuild it. No, the high idle should be adjusted in the injection pump and not on the linkage. That adjustment on the linkage only locates where the throttle lever position is pointed when it's adjusted correctly...from the previous posting of the throttle linkage adjustment procedures.
