ever repair a throttle cable

barklee ยท 2010-01-13 19:08

I have a broken throttle cable in a Cat 246B. It broke where it connects to the motor, the actual cable broke just inside the black casing about 2" inside. Is there a way to repair that steel cable so it can still travel inside the black tube??? Cat dealer wants $300 for this part and i think that is crazy! Any advise would be great.

Cablecraft will custom make push/pull control cables. I've used them several times. Biggest pain on those machines is pulling that front floorplate with the foot throttle pedal. Arrrrrggggg :Banghead http://www.tuthill.com/us/en/products/controlCables.cfm

I was hoping you were going to say that it was easy and you can do something really quick to fix it!!! Never that easy though, guess i will try to get a universal and make it work. Any tricks to pulling that pan off the floor?

No tricks to make it easy that I have found. Genuine PITA! It does help to remove the plastic covers on the joystick controls. You can't really lift the floor plate out because of the two cables attached to the foot pedal. You can only lift it up at the back of the floor plate and disconnect the cable your working on. It's a cuss fest. :Banghead

i found its easyer to remove the 3 bolts that hold the pedal on and pull it up enough to get to the allen screws rather than unbolting the flore and removing the joystick control covers

Couldnt quite get the pedal up high enough to remove the allen screws. I unbolted the floor plate and pedal and had to bungie the plate up enough to work. It really wasnt all that bad took maybe two hours. Thanks for the help

It's been awhile since you replaced your cable. We have a 246B and replaced the cable but still doesn't work. By chance did you make a video when you replaced yours?
