hello world, im not sure if this question has been asked but ill still ask my question because i would like some answers.......i would like to know the tonnage of some excavators, im not too sure which number im suppose too look at. for example a cat 330C, i understand c is the series and i guess 30 is the ton, but i understand its not like this for all, so i want to know the same for the following brands. Case, Cat, Fiat, Doosan, Hyundai, volvo, JCB, Kobleco, New Holland, John Deere, Komatsu if you can also tell me what engines they carry that would be amazing as well and do all excavators come in the same tonnage, or can a company just make whatever they feel. Like i know there is 15 ton, 20 ton, etc, but do companies make say, 17ton, or 23 ton, because ive never really saw this and i was just wondering if all companies build excavators for a specific ton i know this is alot to ask for, so i thank anyone who reply in advanced :salute :bouncegri
I recently went through this learning process and I discovered that the alphabet soup on construction equipment is even more confusing and impenetrable than on Harley Davidsons.
Yes, those "odd-ball" tons exist. CAT makes a 315, 318, 320, 321, 322, 325, 330...... Some of those are kind of "specialty" in that they might have other features (zero-tail swing on 321 I think?) etc. Use the first 2 digits on the older 200 series CATs as well. On the current line of Deere's, divide the number by 10 to get the tons. You can't quite say to just use the first 2 digits, because they make a 17 for example which is 1.7t. The older series they drew numbers at random: 490, 590, 690, 790, 892.....(Our 790e would be about 23t.) Komatsu + Kobelco, I believe is the same - first 2 digits. Andrew
I agree with what you said Andrew except about the old 200 series Cats. They are random numbers like the old Deeres. A 205 is 14 tons,a 215C just happens to weigh 21.5 tons, a 225 weighs just over 26 tons, but a 235 weighs almost 45 tons, and a 245 is just over 75 tons, with all the others in there somewhere. The bigger the number, the bigger the machine seems to be the only rule.
Only way to know for sure is to look at a FACTORY spec sheet. Ritchie Bros. spec sheets are better than they use to be, but still not 100%. A few examples: My Case 210C weighs about 49,000. By the number, it should be around 46,000. A PC220-8 Komatsu is way off.....around 57,000. The older ones are closer, but after -6 they really start to wander. Last one, Deere 210G is over 50,000.
thanks for the help guys
