This seems very simple but on a 330 lc deere it leaks grease all the time. put new one on same thing terrible messy clumsy job so hard to get it perfectly clean- is that the problem?

Agreed, most are like 2 pumps every 250 hours.
The other reason for a mess around the swing bearing is a leaking swing reduction gear box. Oil can leak from the pinion seal into the tub and mix with the grease thinning it enough to allow the slurry to flow through the bearing.
