Faked CAT 140H grader from China

Mevas · 2013-11-26 04:15

Self-made "CAT" grader from China. It seems they copy everything. We have been ordered to inspect a Caterpillar 140H grader in Shanghai. After one minute on site we could see already this machine is not a Caterpillar at all. We know about the feature-reduced machines from China for the Asian and African market. But this unit here was even not the cheaper CAT 140H version but just a faked Chinese machine. There was even no Caterpillar engine mounted in this unit. The serial number plate was copied from a machine which has been sold initially in South Africa. Attached some pictures without comment. See yourself what you would receive if you purchase such "CAT 140H" from this place. We can just recommend to be carefully and send an inspector on site. Used machine inspections in Shanghai can be performed by www.mevas.eu Prices for standard machine inspection in Shanghai starts from 690 Euro.

the transmission looks like a john deere style and everything else to me looks like champion. just my thoughts on it. this post just goes to show what doing your homework on heavy equipment does.

Gray market equip't is bad enough. This looks like Black market, hopefully cat gets these guys shut down before they spread their junk all over the world.

I have been posting about this kind of chinese knock off junk and the quality issues there are with all chinese products from dog food and tooth paste on up through steel, castings and now this. It is so hard to imagine that here are actually a few on here that post in defense of the chinese and their disasters that the proudce and pawn off on the rest of the world. READ IT AND WEEP!!!!!!!!! Anything who buys from them gets what they deserve.

They don't even use a Cat key by the looks of it.

mate its not even a CAT grader it is just a trading company in shanghai painting it with CAT and crap i know heaps of people who have been ripped off by them in shanghai run away from shanghai and any company who is saying that they will help you. CAT dose make a 140H in china and they use real CAT parts and they look nothing like these in the cabs seen a few of them in aus they showed up with around 500hrs on them.

Agreed, no part of that machine is Cat, and doubt the decals are Cat either. lol Looks like an old 'brand x' machine with fresh paint and decals.

The expression "Shanghaied" now makes more sense!

Wonder if this Mevas character has anything to do with this junk

Time ago I have seen on a selling site, a Galion Grader is faked with stamps from Caterpillar.... it is so terrible why some think they only can sell when the name "Caterpillar" is on it.

Looks alot like the New Hollands we use to have pimped out in Cat paint and stickers and new tires, looks like a straight frame to.

Can you ask someone to supply you with a photo of the Serial Number plate and post it here please.

You have to hand it to the mainland Chinese. They have balls. I used to sell high-end test equipment that could not be sold to communist countries. We were warned to be careful about companies trying to buy our equipment when the type of company would never typically use any of our products. Sure enough, Chinese companies that allegedly sold houseplants or pet food would call, wanting to buy $100,000 data analyzers for chip design. When questioned why a houseplant company would need a data analyzer, the excuses were hysterical. They have no shame. This is Chi-coms, not American Chinese.

I remember China Diesel. They actually made decent generators, but were shut down due to emissions issues. Instead of glow plugs, they had a cavity in the block, where you could insert paper or kindling, and light it up to heat the engine. They could also be serviced with a rock and a hammer, like the old Land Rovers.

The prefix XZH is listed in my material and shows built in China. The last number for US machines that shows is 2381 which is a 2010 year model. I will note that in the photos the exhaust stack is different than any I remember on a Cat. The cutting edges on the blade appear to be worn to the edge of the moldboard. The paint job appears to be very thick. The photographer did a pretty good job of showing nothing that might give a negative thought.

John posted while i was typing....... Is this machine new or used.? Unless it just came off the production line then from the photos it looks far too "new & clean" to be a 10 year-old used machine. there are no "dings & dents" on it. The S/N plate looks as though it came off the line yesterday which is another clue. No way is it 11 years old. 140H graders prefix XZH the production ended on 9th August 2010 with Serial Number XZH02381 - so machine 2484 does not exist. Same with the engine Serial Number TX648730 & the transmission Serial Number CK403502. Neither of them exist. I strongly suspect that it's fake. To confirm that try talking to your local Cat dealer. If it's MATCO I probably still know a couple of people there.

Looking a bit more closely at the photos...... Both the "Cat" & "VHP" decals are the wrong style for the era when the machine was built. All 140H had plastic fuel tanks AFAIK. This one doesn't. Again AFAIK all 140H production was fitted with a 3176 engine. This one is listed on the PIN Plate as C-7 where the TX6 engine prefix is actually a C7.2. Lots of details don't add up.

In the picture, that looks like a rigid frame grader. No oil tank behind the cab. Makes me think the oil pump isn’t under the cab. Also doesn’t look CAT around the lift group.

  23. #2320/802021-09-05 06:05

Yep, its a Frankenstein grader, parts off many different junked machines jury rigged together to make one machine, using some printer to make Cat stickers and Cat paint to make you think its a pure Cat to attract a buyer, it may work good but good luck finding parts, looking at the picture I don't think any parts from a 140h would fit it.

I would never contemplate buying any used equipment from China whatsoever. End of. Buying new from China from the manufacturer or reputable dealer would be something else to consider allthough I don’t have the stomach for it personally. I’m very aware that the Chinese have great manufacturing capabilities these days in modern, state of the art factories. They also have the ability to knock out pure and fraudulent junk. You must do your homework on the dealer’s reputation long before you even think about buying a machine off them.

Wife and I went to China twice in the mid 2000's. Traveled through Hong Kong, Shinzen, Guangzhou, Beijing, Great Wall, etc. EVERYTHING at that time in China was fake. Coke, cigarettes, watches, handbags - you name it and it was fake. I had American Marlboro Lights and you would've thought they were gold bars. Just my $.02 but I will never consider buying any Chinese brand such as Sany or others regardless who the dealer is here in the US much less buy a cobbled together used machine from there. Chi-coms have no shame, none.

Doesn't look like a proper cutting edge and what is the extra plate on the moldboard for? Graders are supposed to roll material and seems like putting anything extra on the moldboard would limit the rolling action.

  27. #27DB22021-09-07 14:38

That extra piece on the moldboard is to cover up a hole that’s worn through.

  28. #28Welder Dave2021-09-07 16:21

How do you wear a moldboard out like that? Moldboards are 1 inch thick or more.

  29. #29CM19952021-09-07 19:48

WD have you been to a third world country and see how they operate equipment? Think steel ball and rubber hammer.

  30. #30Welder Dave2021-09-07 20:22

I've seen some of the video's. LoL

  31. #31BigWrench552021-09-07 21:05

I only need to go to the nearest highway job to see equipment being abused and used in ways that they weren't meant to. That is why I quit turning wrenches on this stuff for 3 years. I got burned out. I seen a half a million dollars worth of machinery get destroyed. So that a quarter of a million dollar job can be finished early. It's all about the completion bonus and nothing else. Formans and superintendents get nice bonuses. And the mechanic gets **** because he doesn't have the part on his truck to fix their screw up.

Stickers look right , Rest looks dodgy
