Fiat Allis 645B transmission rebuild

cheddarbob56 ยท 2014-11-10 12:22

Does anyone have any experience rebuilding the TT2421 Allison auto in a 645B wheel loader? Ours is down to barely moving itself under it's own weight. It was pretty weak earlier this summer but now you can't even think about pushing any dirt. Going to rebuild it this winter. Anyone have any pointers? Engine has to be pulled right? After that I've heard it's pretty straight forward to rebuild them. We've rebuilt a C-15 Cat motor, 8.3 Cummins motor, 3306 Cat motor as well as some smaller stuff so I'm thinking we can handle it. Thanks for any pointers or things to watch for guys. What about a good place for parts? Chris

Motor does not have to come out remove the cab and complete floor right down to the main frame. Then there are only a few bolts to take the tranmission out be sure and remove the bolts between the engine and transmission think there was 8 of them.

So which do you think is easier? Pulling the motor or pulling the cab and everything associated with that?

You cannot get it out by just pulling the motor you must pull the cab and complete floor. Only a small part of the top of the transmission housing can be seen from the engine side.

Hey dirthog - we finally got a chance to get started on the transmission rebuild on this loader. The weather has stayed nice enough around here until just lately so we've been working instead of repairing for now. Anyways... can we take the complete cab and floor and everything in one big section all the way down to the frame rails? I'm assuming that's what you do. Looks like if we disconnect everything we should be able to lift the whole cab, floor, frame and everything at once right down to the frame rails. Am I right? Thanks. Chris

Yes that's the way i have always done it as long as you have something to lift it with.

We've got a nice sized forklift that should do the trick. Thanks for the help dirthog. I appreciate it.
