Final drive on track excavator

stadamack ยท 2018-01-30 18:06

Took apart the hydraulic side of the final drive on my mini excavator to examine a cracking noise. The noise was likely coming from the main bearing side. Anyhow, everything went back as it came apart but the drive does not turn now - it did beforehand. Is there a priming mechanism , presumably they dont air lock? Anyone know any likely reasons why it won't turn on reassembly?

A make, model and serial number would help.

Bound up, dropped something, anything could have happened. Did you do this as benchwork or in chassis. As John C stated , whachya workin on?

Did it as benchwork. Pel job 25.4. Everything went back as it came out. It seems bound up. The other track is turning fine so shouldn't be a pump issue. I'm likely overlooking a common pitfall. Thanks for the feedback john c & funwithfuel

I guess we should start at the beginning do you have any issues with your crowd function in other words your dipper arm is it strong does it pullin does it swing out and would you compare it as equal to your boom function or perhaps your bucket function

I'm sorry I neglected to mention pump one is for 1 travel pump 2 is for the other travel so to say you have travel on 1 side is not a fair assumption that your pumps are unharmed

Does it load the engine when trying to operate the stuck track? What brand of travel motor?

When you had the motor apart did you have the travel brake disks out as well? I have had other travel motors apart and had a disk slip out of plate and lock up the motor. Sometimes there are some passages that have to be in time in order for pressure oil to get to and release the travel brakes.

Stadamack, can you at least give us some details of the drive hub. Everyones only guessing and no help to you or anyone else who may have the same problem.

Thank you all for responses. Drive manufacturer is Nachi. I need to get answers to the questions you have raised above. Again thank you. I will post again shortly.

Something is out of place or mistimed during reassembly. Most of us could probably point out what to look for if we had an exploded view of the motor.

Fixed by a guy who knows his way around drive motors. Would anyone know what the specified gear oil for the bearing side of track drive motor for pel job 25.4 is?

80/90 gear oil for sprocket / gear drive?
