Fire Department pictures

Countryboy ยท 2007-08-09 21:41

Fireman050 had the idea to start a thread to compile some pictures of Fire Trucks, Fire Fighters and scenes you have responded to. So guys, post up some pictures of your departments pride and joy, your new gear or anything having to do with the Fire Department. I'm also looking for pictures showing your guys fighting a fire or working an accident. I want this to be educational and uplifting. Please remember, in these types of pictures, someone lost something. Please be respectful with your comments. This is your chance to show off your department and give the folks, that haven't had a look inside the workings of a Fire Department, a way to see what goes on. When posting fire or accident scenes I ask that you follow a couple of guidelines: No pictures of fatalities or the deceased. No pictures of scenes with a pending investigation. No pictures containing any victims. Our Fallen Heroes, We Will Never Forget! :usa

Here's a brush truck I designed. It's an '01 F-350 C/C with 7.3 and automatic. It has an L pack tool box behind the cab, and an Alum-Line flatbed. We attached a 250 gallon tank to the flatbed with a Hatz diesel powered pump. It has 250' of 1" booster line and is plumbed for 1 1/2" hose too, and there's also a foam induction unit on it. It carries a generator, portable pump, Indian tanks and brush/salvage tools. This truck's duties include brush fires, tanker operation support and traffic detail. All of our brush trucks prior to this one had utility bodies on them. I chose the flatbed design to make access to the pump, generator and Indian tanks easier. It has worked out well, in fact many of the neighboring departments have copied its design.

is that a excalibur lightbar on that truck?

  7. #7nedly052007-08-10 06:32

Heres one of our engine at a water supply/pump ops drill, and one of us at a tractor trailer with his trailer brakes/tires on fire. One of me and the boys. Will post more later.

  8. #8Steve Frazier2007-08-10 06:35

I believe it is an Excalibur. I had spec'ed a two level Code 3 but the powers that be didn't want to spend the money. This one has the same features and is a slightly lower profile at a lesser cost. I had Federal strobes mounted to the sides of the winch frame for clearing intersections and there's a Federal Arrow Stick on the back for traffic control.

Nedly 05: Which one is you in those pictures? Great shots, by the way.

  10. #10littledenny2007-08-10 15:16

Wow, I'm already jealous. Went to training Wed night, and on the way home, stopped at my station to check the rigs -- two out of three started. Really wish my jurisdiction could afford what we really need. They're trying, but it's a long process, trying to make up for years of "we'll make due". I'll have to get some pix of what we have to play with, so you guys can see how the other half lives.

  11. #11nedly052007-08-10 17:58

Thanks!,I'm the white hat, I have tons of pics, I just need to take a few minutes and sort through them. I have been brining my fiance along to be the dept. photographer!

  12. #12atgreene2007-08-10 18:03

I'll post some pics soon, but here's a link with some awesome vids and audio from PFD. The Cleveland St fire audio, I'm Engine 11 / IC initially. The Park Ave video I was on RIT. The Mayo St. police cruiser video # 2 is just amazing to watch the three jump from the 3rd floor. I came back to that fire on the third alarm call-back. http://www.portlandfirefighters.com/

Wosh smoke started poring from the dash area, they had to go back and get the old truck to put out the new one! Need less to say the saleman was a Little embarresed!

  26. #26itsgottobegreen2007-08-15 20:07

You guys only have one engine? No other equipment?

  27. #27littledenny2007-08-17 00:23

As promised, here's a couple pix of my red toys. Although the paid guys from the main station have some nice, new engines and tankers, the volunteers from the outlying stations make due with some older equipment. Actually, it's probably better for us, since we respond to more woodland fires, downed trees and accidents than structure fires. The squad truck has 4wd, so it can get just about anywhere, which is good as most of the drives to homes in our area are straight up hill, and graveled at best. I had the knocker down a WMA trail the other night, and had to back out at least a quarter mile down a pigtrail almost as wide as the truck. None of the frontline equipment would have been able to get in and out like this truck. We're pretty old school here, as we're still hauling water, drafting out of creeks and filling drop tanks. But we're finally getting radio repeaters for the outlying areas of the county, so maybe there's some hope for us afterall. :usa

  28. #28littledenny2007-08-17 00:39

Maybe this time the pix will come through!!!!!

  29. #29littledenny2007-08-17 00:41

    The knocker:

  30. #30Countryboy2007-08-17 00:50

Littledenny, you ain't by yourself man. I had to take a second look to make sure those weren't our trucks. :cool2 While we do have some new trucks, due to some recent grant money, we still keep the old stuff around as well. The older trucks seem to just keep on kicking. Good looking trucks man. :thumbsup

  31. #31littledenny2007-08-17 11:47

Countryboy: Wish I had a pix of the duece and a half we recently got rid of - an old Korean era M-49C converted with the most god-awfully complicated pony pump I've ever seen. Still, it would climb a tree. Being in a combination department is interesting. The young fulltimers are are into gung-ho and blasting around in the new equipment. Meanwhile us OF's exercise a bit of common sense and simply go about doing what needs to be done. Our biggest problem is maintaining rosters in the outlying stations. Think we have 8 on the books at our station, maybe three we can rely on, and we're probably averaging 55 years old. Think this is probably a widespread problem - not sure how to inspire the younger generations into giving of self. That said, I have a pretty good core of more than a half dozen 20 somethings on the SAR team. We're one of the few Type 2 certified teams in the area. Most are First Responders, and individual talents range from dog handlers to swiftwater rescue techs. Even have three certified emergency managers on the team. I'd put this team up against any other team in the state.

  32. #32Steve Frazier2007-08-17 21:31

I just saw the ladder truck on fire. We lost an entire firehouse just before I joined, I wish I had a scanner to post the pics. They drove the engine through the door, but lost the rescue truck and ambulance in the fire.

  33. #33fireman0502007-08-17 23:14

if you have a walmart nearby take the film to them and they can put the pics on a cd

  36. #36Lashlander2007-08-22 00:50

These came through the yard today. One was from Cordova and the one on the barge was coming from Adak. Not sure where they were headed.

  37. #37Countryboy2007-08-22 02:39

Great pictures Lash. Do you think if that barge was to go floating off in the middle of the night, purely by accident of course :cool2, that maybe the tide would carry it around to the coast of Georgia? Them are some nice looking trucks. :thumbsup

  38. #38Lashlander2007-08-22 12:36

You'd have to wait for the correct wind. Someone might as well have them. When the Navy closed the Navy Base in Adak a few years ago they drove all their fire trucks into a ravine and buried them. This was a naval air station so the trucks were state of the art. They never drained the oil and fuel out of them and had to go in a year or so later and dig then back up. Then they had to ship them to Seattle for proper disposal. A friend of mine was on the crew that dug them up. He thought there was 10 or 12 pieces worth several million dollars. This mentality just blows my mind.:cussing

  39. #39fireman0502007-08-24 00:09

if i knew where and when they buried them they would have mysteriously vanished shortly after they were buried

  40. #40chipsearthworks2007-08-24 09:08

thats just stupid! you got depts that cant afford new trucks and they are driving around on 70,08s **** and the govement does something like that. that just burns my hide!

  41. #41fireman0502007-08-29 23:22

  53. #532004F5502007-10-28 20:08

:notworthy Nice nedly, we are going out to bid on a 5500 mini pumper, 1000 gpm. I talked my department out of the f550 and steered them to the 5500, hope it works out. It seems like they are quickly becoming the chassis of choice by truck builders, what are the specs of that bad boy????

  54. #54nedly052007-10-28 20:30

2004F550 Thanks! It is a very nice truck. Body was built by Horton, the truck has the 6.6 litre duramax with the exhaust brake, and the new emissions, which gives it a different sound when you really get on to it, but otherwise it doesnt seem to make any difference. The body is really slick. It has the light tower on top, the manufacturers name escapes me at the moment. The rescue tools are all preconnected, and the compartment where all of the tools and the power units are mounted slides out the back so everything is right there when you need it. There is a compartment for hand tools, one for cribbing, one for air tools, one for medical equipment, storage for 6 bottles and 2 packs. We have a warn winch for it that slides into a reciever hitch, and there are 4 points on the truck to use it. I will try to get some pics one night this week, it is really a very nice unit. Heres a pick up truck fire from Friday afternoon.
