Fixing a “Flooded” Excavator

lonelyowl7 · 2023-06-10 22:10

Hey! John Deere 135 excavator, was submerged overnight in saltwater. Is it worth fixing? What all would need to be done yall think? It ran the next day off a battery jumper to the starter, hasn't been tried since then, a couple months ago. Looking for any input, thanks!

Welcome to the Forums LL7! Glad to have you. Excavator submerged in saltwater? Don't walk - run away, no get in your car/truck/bike or what ever you can get in or on that is internally combusted to haul ass away from it, never to look back. However if you decide to go forward with the restoration we'll need pics.

If everything wasn't drained, flushed, refilled, and everything washed, the owner should just be done with it and call the scrapyard, because in a couple years that's all it'll be. The wiring is already shot, the rest will follow.

that battery jumper to the starter may have taken the computer out of it. They will start but not function in any meaningful way. Perhaps that was how they walked it out of harm's way.

How bad was it submerged? Curious because you say it was started the next day. What all was done to get it started?

    No good. It’s scrap now.
