Does any one knowhow to get the float to work on the 544J. It is a rental machine. Can't get to the manuel the little door, Can't get it open without breaking it.
float 544J should be a switch on the SSM ( sealed switch module ). there is a decal explaining each button on the right side of the cab sorta under the ssm if my memory serves me correct.
Float or Return to Carry? Return to Carry is in the SSM as G Model says. If the LED for the button is on, RTC is on. If you put the boom in the position you want it in and then hold the RTC button until it beeps, you can set it wherever you wish. If you are talking about float, push the boom function past the detent (all the way forward). This will put the boom in float. If you have RTC on and push the boom into float, the lever will stay in the float position until the boom passes the set location and then the lever will kick back to neutral.
The 544J I rented was as LoaderMonkey described.
I tried what you said LoaderMonkey. But the bucket goes down then starts picking the machine up. Tried it with the light on and off.
Then the pilot pressure is probably set too low. It takes about 450psi of pilot pressure to fully shift the spool into float. You should get about 550-600psi of pilot pressure when the control lever is put into detent. You can measure this off a diagnostic tap on the Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) or by splicing a guage into the loader valve boom spool pilot end cap.
I was just trying to help a fellow operator(Rookie) out. It's not my machine I have been helping this guy out with it cause I have ran Loaders before. He's a green hand but, he listens and has good common sense. Which is hard to find. Thanks for the help,:notworthy he's getting by with out pretty good.
