Need to haul 600,000 yards of dirt across 500 ft of water from the owner supplied pit to the embankment site. The water is an existing borrow pit averaging 20' ft deep. Would a floating bridge be the best option? Dirt would be hauled in artics. Unless some one has a better idea. South louisiana is the location, in the swamp, literally
Sounds like a nice job! We will definitely be needing some pictures of this one. I guess you can't get a barge in there??
http://www.flexifloat.com/(S(k1onhd451jm3zq45invgif45))/floatingbridge.aspx that's one that i googles then there are bailey bridges
Use conveyors on floats.
I thought of that also , but he may need a way to get equipment there.... needless to say it should be an interesting project.. I think we need video once this job starts
Id still use conveyors..... 500 feet piece of cake. If you need equip on other side a single barge can do that. Nothing moves dirt cheaper than conveyors!
Once you get the material across the water obstacle, do artic trucks work ok in a swamp? Just curious.
how bout dredging and pumping. thats the most efficiant way in the swamp! where in south LA?
Can conveyors handle wet sloppy dirt? i thought about conveyors.. artics would work well once the dirt is across the water hazard... il definately post some pics... the job is near baton rouge...
Sure conveyors handle wet sloppy dirt. Might have to install belt scrapers on them but thats no big deal. You can find overland conveyors used if you look around a bit. If your material is really wet you could put a dewatering screw on the feed end of your conveyor to dewater.
