Ford 1989 7.8 Injector Pump Removal

Hello, I have a 1989 Ford L8000 with a 7.8 engine in it with a bosch fuel injection pump. We have to remove the fuel injector pump and have gotten to the point of removing the gear behind the plate. We can not figure out how to remove the gear or the housing in front of it. The housing in front of the gear looks like it needs a special puller to remove it as it has threads inside it. Was wondering if there is any information out there because I have not been able to find much at all about this type of removal. I do have it pinned in time as well. I can provide pictures with this as well.

The red arrow indicates where the threads are, which are directly inside the hole. We removed the 4 allen head bolts and the center bolts and am assuming with that type of shaft with a slight hole in the middle, a puller is need to remove the front piece. The gear is behind the front plate, which is also what the 4 bolts are threaded into.

You aren't supposed to remove the 4 Allen heads.. The plate between the pump & engine block comes off w/ the pump & gear attached.. There is a small "hidden" bolt at the bottom of the plate.. I think there is a total of 5 bolts.. Do you have the timing pins?? if not, your gonna need them, because u removed the allen screws.. Did u time the pump & engine before u started this mess?? IF NOT, u better tighten the front back up & start over.. A timing pin drops into the front harmonic balance & 1 in the pump drive gear {4 Allens} There should be an Allen headed "plug" on the plate..8 or 10mm? The fuel shop has the tool to pop the gear off.. U might be able to borrow it if your sending the pump to them.. BUT.. that's not the correct way to get the pump off..

Your explanation of how to do it was 10 times better than basically everyone else who told us how to do it as they were saying th gear came off. You were also correct about the bolt underneath that I was not aware of. Thank you very much, we got it off and we also do have the timing pins in place as well and in place. The machine shop said they will put the gear back in time as well.

machine shop?? U mean pump shop?? either way, they cant.. once the 4 Allens were loosened & the gear moved, it'll have to be done on the engine.. They'll probably just put it back where the marks were?? The main gear hub is keyed, so u cant f that up.. Glad it went smoothly after the instructions.. I try to be helpful.. U wouldn't believe the pumps I've gotten in w/that little piece broken off.. Lol.. That little bolt is hidden isn't it..?? The actual book instructions actually "glance over" that bolt.. it just gives u the bolt COUNT.. kinda like, "remove the 5 {or 6, I forget} bolts on the pump flange"..

Yes sorry the pump shop, and okay if we can't get it we will probably just call them and have them come out and do it. But hopefully they can line it up with the marks. And yes the bolt was very hidden it was very hard to find, your description was very helpful though! It was a total of 5 bolts though, so hopefully we can get it all put back together in the upcoming weeks when the shop is done with it. Thank you much!
