FORD 545A BOXBLADE

85b2 · 2018-02-26 13:54

hey guys, i have a ford 545a with a box blade and bucket. over the last year or so ive been having this problem where it seems like its been loosing power more and more. now its too the point where even in 1st gear trying to use the box blade its just boggy and can hardly pull. ive replaced the injectors, fuel filters, ive also pulled the tank and cleaned it, when i pull the line off at the injection pump i have good flow. im wondering if anyone has run into this problem? bad injection pump? is there a way to test this? should i crack a line at the injector and see if it sprays out or just kinda trickles?

or is there a filter somewhere on the inj pump im missing?

Air filter clean ? Black exhaust smoke ? Is there much crankcase blow-by ? Remove the oil filler cap to check for the blow-by.

No, that's what you do if it won't start to bleed the air. Which line did you loosen at the injector pump that got good flow? and what INJECTION PUMP? model number or picture please. There is a way to test the pump, but it involves taking it off and putting it on a $$$$ machine, usually only done after a rebuild. Are you sure the engine is losing power/speed? and not the transmission slipping? The color of the exhaust smoke and the engine speed are the way to tell.

just changed the air filters, there is no blow by, engine is only a couple years old, we had the block crack between the coolant passage and oil pan. i pulled the line coming from the filters to the inj pump off to make sure i was getting good flow to the injection pump. ive had all the fuel lines off and flushed them all and the tank. i was woundering about trans but if it was slipping wouldn't it still pull full rpm, if your in 2nd and you go to pull it is gutless, drop down to first and it pulls ok if your on flat ground but any sort of hill it is gutless, wont rev up, pop it into neutral and it revs ok. and it ran great after the new engine was put in so i have a hard time believing its the engine tho i will check compression the tractor is a ford 545a its got a cav injection pump i believe

yes, it should rev if the transmission is slipping. that's what I was asking about. Sometimes "bogging" means different things to different people. probably safe to assume you haven't noticed black smoke while it bogs down? Don't bother checking the compression yet, does it start ok in cool temps? Awefully hard to wear out an engine in a short time and get no blowby. New engine with the old injection pump right? Does this have a transfer pump on it? or just the tank, some filters and the injection pump? Have you checked the inlet to the injection pump for a screen? The vertical line on the left of the injection pump, in the shadow, is the inlet. That big hex nut that you can see part of comes out and there should? be a screen in there that you can carefully fish out with a bent fine copper wire or small o ring pick, or maybe a needle nose or snap ring pliers on the inside. Careful, there might be springs in there, you'd have to look it up to know for sure.

yeah i hear you on the different terms lol starts great all temps, it doesn't have any sort of pump other than the injection pump, i thought someone told me the injection pump has a low presure pump built in, the tank sits above the pump and there is a water separater and a fuel filter before injection pump. yes new engine old injection pump, i know i know i tried to have the injection pump rebuilt/replaced. i have checked the inlet screen didn't seem to make a difference, and yes i replaced the fuel filter.

Just brainstorming, sorry if it sounds stupid. Are you sure the throttle system is opening the injection pump arm all the way?? Push the hand throttle to wide open position. Then look at the injection pump lever to make sure it's against the fast idle screw?? Sorry I don't have more to offer. Anxious to hear a fix.

Not just the lever, but make sure the lever is tight to the shaft. yes, there is a low pressure pump in the injection pump so a transfer pump is not needed. The only other thing I can think of is the return fitting on the top of the pump. Apparently on some pumps if that plugs up, the pump won't run, take the fitting off, clean it out, blow it out, examine the debris etc. Does it just slow down, or surge a little when it slows down?

Any thing stuck in intake tube past air filter ? Don’t know this machine ,have a turbo on it?

follow Delmer's instructions on return elbow and check return line back to fuel tanks,, sometimes it is a plastic line and get smashed together or part way,, take fuel cap off and look for flow

Prolly sounds dumb, but any chance the brakes are dragging ? I mention this because you said you can put the transmission in neutral and the engine rpms go up. If it isn't the brakes, the transmission may have problems. Hydraulic oil temperature seem normal ? Any noise from the hydraulic pump ?

If it has any banjo fittings check inside those for any clogging. Had one clog on my 575 that drove me crazy. It was on the sediment bowl on the inlet line.
