HAS ANYONE USED A LINKED BELT (LINKS THAT CAN BE INSTALLED AROUND PULLIES AND CONNECTED TOGETHER) ON THEIR BACKHOE AND DID IT WORK? Or is their a neat trick to change this Belt on the 655c hoe? Thanks Casey
Many years ago, while still an apprentice, my old boss loved them. They would continually stretch, requiring regular link removals. Long term usage seem to wear the pulleys. IMHO - They are good for emergency use only - fit the real thing ASAP
Does your have the hyd pump coupled down at the bottom? If so take that coupling loose and slide it forward. It a fun rainy day project.
The hyd pump is coupled to the crank but my probles is the front weight casting is in the way and it looks like a tough job to remove with one person. Thanks Casey
Never worked on one before didioca, can you undo the bolts at the pump drive (44) on the engine front pulley & slide the driveshaft (42) back a little on the pump spline? Maybe just enough to slip a belt through?
There is a big heavy casting weight that blocks me from being able to get my hands on the coupling bolts. It looks like I would be able to if i can get that weight out of my way?
Could you use a floor jack or sling it from the loader frame & lower it with the machine hydraulics??
A floor jack with some sort of sadle may work. looks like it will be a tough job to remove. thanks casey
Any ideas on how to hold the drive pulley( motor crank ) form turning while trying to break loose the four bolts holding the hyd pump driveshaft? My unit is a Hydorstatic drive, so putting in gear has little effect. Also given the very limited working space/access, is the drive shaft on a splined connection or just via the flange with the four bolts? I foresee a real PIA if splined, in getting it to line up again after I have got the new belt in.
