I will post one tonight and it is a 3 cup thanks for the help
Here it is.
Marc, whats your unit number? I think you have the tractor # listed. My Ford dealer showed me how to break down the unit number, Just went and looked at mine to be sure. Should be on same tag, left side of dash. -Mike
Looks like a 80's vintage 550.
Tractor number-c588988 Model- df311f Unit- 9a04b Engine- 8j01a Trans- 8j22b Rear- 8h28c This is everything on tag next to the steering wheel
The 555 Ford repair manual breaks down the date code syntax as follows. 1st digit is year 4-1984 5-1985 6-1986 Etc. 2nd digit is month A-Jan H-Aug B-Feb I ā Note āIā is not used C-Mar J-Sept D-Apr K-Oct E-May L-Nov F-June M-Dec G-July 3rd and 4th digit is day of month 01..31 5th digit is production shift A-Midnight shift B-Day shift C-Afternoon shift Therefore based on this, your tractor 9a04b was built on the 4th of January, 1989 by the day shift. Your engine 8j01a was built on the 1st of September, 1988 by the midnight shift. This is assuming you have a 555 as Daman stated. If so, you can calculate your transmission and rear axle build dates similarly. Note the model number does not follow this same syntax. There is not a lot of useful information in the model as it just tells you things that you already know like engine type=diesel, etc. I hope this helps.
It looks to be a '79. if it were a '89, it was the first year of the 'c' model, and they look more modern. 550 1975-1977 555 1978-1982 555a 1983-1984 555b 1986-1988 555c 1989-1992 555d 1992-1995 555e 1996-2000 The 550-555b all look similar, the give away with the 'a' model is the square headlights on cabbed models.
Heres mine, it is an '81/'82 model, built in july of '81, not sure what it would be considered. It has the front weights like yours marc, nice to have as the front end is very light, lots of fun to take off and reinstall though.
